Signor Benedick The Moor, featured in The Wire 367

One of the best things I’ve ever done —music journalism wise— was have a sit down with the Deathbomb Arc family. I was working in LA, so I called them up about an interview, and they just invited me over to their house.

At one point Brian Kinsman (True Neutral) and I are talking about obscure rappers we like, and I start asking him about SB The Moor, who had been talking to the label about coming down to LA to make music.

Jonathan and William from clipping. were there (it was Jonathan’s house) and William says, “I haven’t heard his stuff yet.” I look at him and say (because William Hutson knows an insane fuckton about hip hop) “you have to, dude has a Danny Brown flow, and his beats are really well thought out.”

I think Brian put it best though when he said, “This guy is making all of this really sophisticated music, in his bedroom, but he’s in Sacramento. So we think ok, he’s young, what’s to lose by coming down,” so he calls SB on the phone and they’re talking about it, and he explains this thought to him, like, “hey this is worth a try, though it might not work out,” and SB The Moor says “Well, yeah dude, I have a fallback plan”.

His shit. is already. thought out.

Watch out.

(then we all argued about the Shakespeare reference, that SB is very well aware of…music geeks, UNITE! haha)

This is where is all began. The first True Neutral track, which I did solo and then immediately afterward was like “I hate make music alone… its too lonely” and called up Margot to see if she would make music with me. And it just kept growing from there. Now there are so many of us! Funny to think of TNC as just the way I created family for myself :)

Goodnight everyone, and thank you so much for coming to the True Neutral Crew VMAs!!! We close things out tonight with a live performance from Celine Dion. May you all have as beautiful and powerful rest of the evening as her voice.

We love you. Talk soon.

Okay folks, it is time for the last award of the first annual True Neutral Crew VMAs!!! Presenting is the one and only Signor Benedick The Moor presenting the “I can’t believe we’re doing this ridiculous thing” award. And who does the award go to?

Aphex Twin for “Come to Daddy”!!!!

Fantastic job, Aphex Twin! You’ve influenced like everyone! What do you win? We don’t know, but we’re guessing you already go it.

Don’t worry folks though, the night isn’t quite over, so please stay in your seats!!!

The next award comes from the newest member of True Neutral Crew, Narin Dickerson. He is True Neutral Crew’s puppeteer and he presents the “Best music video according to a puppeteer in a rap group” to…

Bonnie Tyler for her classic video “Faster Than The Speed of Night”

What does she win? Narin will think about her during the next True Neutral Crew performance. Which is a prize for us all!!!

And now, for an intermission live performance from…

Vanessa Williams!!!

We know, you thought it would be outside of our budget to afford one of our favorite performers, but she agreed to play because True Neutral Crew is also one of her favorite groups. The world is perfect and cool!!

Coming to the stage now is Brian Kinsman to present the “Music video selected to post on tumblr by Brian Kinsman” award.

And the winner is…

The-Dream’s “Black”!!!

What does he win? Now he is no longer robbed by the MTV’s fake VMAs and has won an award!
